Monday, October 01, 2007 Youth Services Department, Hackley Public Library. Enter Write for Fright!, HPL’s scary story contest. Anyone in grades K-6 can join. Bring your stories and poems to the Library by October 31. Each year the scariest stories are printed in a Write fro Fright! Book and distributed through schools and libraries. Oct 15- Nov 10 | Teen Trivia Contest Youth Services Department, Hackley Public Library. For grades 6 and up. Teens--Test your Trivia Know-How! - entry forms in the Teen Books area - Each week we’ll post several questions to ponder on topics such as Harry Potter, Hackley Library, Muskegon Football and more. Correct answers will earn raffle tickets for movies, gift certificates, ITunes Gift Cards, and other cool stuff. Game begins Teen Read Week, Oct. 15th and ends November 10th. Author and freelance sports writer Todd Mishler chronicles the Big Ten's greatest football rivalries in a new book from Big Earth Publishing. Mishler interviewed dozens of former players and coaches to capture the flavor, both on and off the field, surrounding arguably college football's best and most historic conference. Scores, statistics and highlights cover the teams from the series beginnings in the late 1800s to the showdown between No. 1 Ohio State and No. 2 Michigan in November 2006. Nov 6 6:30 - 7:30 pm | Mysteries and Histories beneath the Inland Sea with Valerie van Heest Julia Hackley Room, Hackley Public Library. Thousands of ships rest on the bottom of the cold clear waters of Michigan's Great Lakes, which unlike any other body of water holds them in a nearly timeless state. The harrowing and often fateful tales of many lost vessels will be told as well as the daunting work that goes into discovering and documenting a lost ship, and preserving it for future generations. The program will focus on vessels lost off the shores of Western Michigan and will include stunning slides and video images of newly discovered Michigan shipwrecks. The book is about the 32nd Division’s Ghost Mountain Boys, who "were assigned the most grueling mission of the entire Pacific campaign: march 130 miles over the rugged Owen Stanley Mountains and protect the right flank of the Australian army as they fought to push the Japanese back to the village of Buna on New Guinea’s north coast."
