A big month for RFID

Well, I guess October (and early November) is RFID month for me. On the 16th, the EC Article 29 Working Group meets in Brussels to present findings from its RFID consultation. I'm eager to hear what they have to say: there's been a lot of input, but not enough from the UK yet. The consultation period is still open, so get those comments in quick.

Then we've got the RSA Conference Europe in Nice on 23-25 October. I'm on a panel discussing RFID privacy, but this looks like it might be the most interesting conference of its kind I've attended yet. I'm particularly looking forward to hearing from Chris Patten.

Then we have the Enterprise Privacy Group Expert Workshop on Privacy and Ethical Use of RFID (please forgive the blatant plug). This is being held at the RFID Centre in Bracknell on 26 October. Our speakers include the European Commission Article 29 Working Group; the Information Commissioner's Office; GS1UK; Privacy International; and RSA Security. The event is free of charge, but by invitation only - please contact me if you're interested.

Finally, on November 9th we have the RFID Networking Forum where I'm speaking on a privacy and civil liberties panel. The last of these that I attended was excellent, although with so many vendors present it's often hard to get the privacy message across.

I'll blog the outcome of these sessions - hopefully it will be fun!

The best RFID story - ever!

Forget subcutaneous implants or RFID-enabled wheelie bins. The BBC reports that a dog named George ate the keyfob immobiliser of his owner's car, but the vehicle could be started so long as George was in the front seat...
