Iditarod Saturday

Anchorage city crews labored through the night to haul in snow for the ceremonial start. And amazingly enough, it actually was winter for a twelve block stretch. Of course outside of those twelve blocks, the grass was green and pussy willows were budding.

It appears as if Niek and Dr. Wald are co-sponsoring a team in this year's race.

Clemmie agrees completely. She thinks bombs are way too loud and scary. She vastly prefers bones.

Sack's cafe usually has cars parked outside, not dog teams.

Check out those day-glo green booties. Clemmie is jealous!

The Iditarod's Anchorage Ceremonial start is a real zoo. Scads of gawkers, novice dog handlers, manic dogs, and Idita-Riders - people who have bid the big bucks to ride in a musher's sled at the Anchorage start.

Here, musher Mitch Seavey, is surrounded by the hoards.

The Iditarod commerates the 1925 Diptheria Serum Run to Nome. This puppy's doggie coat is supplied by Alaska's Division of Epidemeology as a part of their vaccination awareness campaign.
