I'm in the middle of my fantasy baseball league draft. Because the Arctic Wool Sox finished in the cellar last year, we got the first pick. We kept 20 and are drafting five starters and 10 reserves. I need to draft two outfielders, one middle infielder, one pitcher, and one catcher. Here's my draft - it will be updated with each pick.
  1. Hideki Matsui - a great first pick if I do say so myself.
  2. Kevin Millar - I think he's going to be great!
  3. Ricardo Rodriguez - Good pick but I screwed up. I meant to take Bellhorn. Hopefully he'll still be there when the third round starts.
  4. Yea! Bellhorn is still available and I snagged him.
  5. Arghhhh - someone just took Joe Mauer. I was coveting him - a great upcoming catcher. My catcher pick was Miguel Olivo - a very speedy kid.
So, now the reserve round starts. I need pitchers - three of my starters are in bad shape: Aaron Heilman (great prospect but just got sent down), Mike Hampton (Terrible Spring. But, I still think he's going to do well in Atlanta), Casey Fossum (terrible spring). The reserve draft consists of ten rounds.
  1. Horacio Ramirez - great spring. Bobby Cox is very high on him. Atlanta pitchers are to be prized.
  2. Travis Hafner!!!! Can you believe it? He was still available.
  3. Jeremy Bonderman. I'm excited about this pick.
  4. Jason Davis - 5th starter for Cleveland.
  5. Hanley Ramirez - prospect time!
  6. Andres Torres - I need an outfielder. Not sure about this pick
  7. Alex Cora - I got severely razzed for this pick. But he's not that bad and I need a 2B backup for Thurston.
  8. Angel Guzman - young stud pitcher for the Cubs. Had a fabulous Spring. He was sent down. But long term, he has fab potential.
  9. Ty Wigginton - 3B for the Mets. I was razzed for this pick also. But he's had a great spring and has potential.
  10. Jeff Mathis - great prospect catcher for the Angels.
  11. The draft is now over - I just dropped Cora and picked up Loretta.
You know, the baseball draft is a lot of fun. I'm the only girl and the banter is just hilarious. The Guzzy's Chan Ho Park pick and Rick's Eniar Diaz pick were particularly amusing.

Or Joe's remark, "I really don't play in this league to win. I play for 2nd." Joe has finished second for four years in a row.

Guzzy - "I can't break the habit - Darren Dreifort." 3rd year in a row for Guzzy.

Hughie - "Dreifort causes cancer."

Well - the boys stated that this was my best draft ever. And they meant it. I really prepared for this one.
