C17s and F22s, Oh, Wow!
I got to touch one of these and run my hand along the leading edge! Absolutely amazing! Talk about being up close and personal. Actually, they are quite small. I'm happy to designate my tax dollars for these machines.
Commonwealth North had a field trip to Elmendorf today to view the C17s and the new F22s that are arriving.
Our tour through the C17 brought back memories of R. Tinney and C130s at Elmendorf during 1966 and 1967. It was neat to actually stand inside the C17 and to be up in the cockpit.
We had lunch at the Officers Club---the club that hardly exists any more. It is no longer open all the time. Lt. General Fraser gave an excellent briefing before we toured the base and airplanes and during lunch. I had not been on base for several years. There are some significant changes---less housing and more operations. Among other changes, the Air National Guard is moving from Kulis to Elmendorf and will integrate with the Elmendorf personnel.
