Abstract Visuals and Music

After Daughter discovered I had subscribed to Wired and was thoroughly enjoying its articles, she thought I might like the website Very Short List. And I have indeed. They send an email each day featuring one item. The other day it was about Philip Glass and his 1979 composition, Geometry of Circles, which was paired with geometric shapes on Sesame Street as seen below.

It prompted me to remember the Music Animation Machine's First Demonstration Reel Spring 1990 that I've had for 15 years. I hadn't thought about it for a long time. Stephen Malinowski transcribes the note sounds into note bar graphics.

". . . a novel, uniquely effective graphical score that can be understood without any musical training. Form, texture, and melodic contour are revealed in this beautiful and precise representation."

Here is In Dlulci Jubilo by Bach

Here is Clair de Lune which looks vastly different, as you would imagine.

I am awed by talent, creativity, and the use of technology.
