QUITO, Dec. 30 (Xinhuanet) -- Jefferson Perez was named as the Ecuadorian Athlete of the Year in 2004 at the 40th Champions Dinner, offered by daily El Universo.
This is the sixth occasion the athlete is distinguished with such award in Ecuador.
Perez also won the 20km event in the World Cup walking tournament in Naumburg, Germany, last May and led the Ecuador to the silver medal in the team event.
He finished fourth in the 20 kilometers and 12th in the 50 kilometers at the Athens Olympic Games.
