Isn't technology supposed to make our lives easier? The microsoft proposed 'payment' of cpu cycles proves once and for all that email is broken and even the world's smartest technologists can't fix it.

It's only a delay for the inevitable. Moore's law will catch up with the estimated 8000 emails a day limit and as they are already accustomed to paying for fast machines and large bandwidth bills. The BBC article incorrectly states that sending email is free.

Spam, in my opinion, doesn't only come from viagra and penis enlargement vendors. It also comes in the form of unsolicited proposals, 'news' from companies who's software I bought, useless carbon copy CYA memos and mailing lists that are just too much hassle to unsubscribe from.

The mailbox used to be the only open port for the outside world to communicate through. Every home with a computer connected to the internet now has thousands more to deal with. Peer to peer apps like Instant Messaging and distribution protocols such as RSS are much more enjoyable and efficient.

RSS feeds are great, because you can easily break off the communication flow by unsubscribing.

Presuming many of the spammers out there are bonafide businesses who just happen to use sledgehammer sales tatics, I can easily imagine I would actually subscibe to a spam rss feed. Why not? Something may actually be of interest to me.Somebody out there in spamland should give it a whirl.

All of europe had their 'ears on' last night, waiting for a sign from Beagle 2. No joy.
