MINIs Own Glove Box Organizer.
As predicted last March MINI has released it's own official version of the glove box organizer that's proved quite popular among owners. The MINI Glovebox Organzier came out the first week of May and is currently available for $41.60 retail (dealer cost is $20.50). The part # is 51 11 0 392 165.
FYI a typical aftermarket unit retails about around $25. [MotoringFile]

This UPI article is so true. It's over Rummy.
Even worse for Rumsfeld and his coterie of neo-conservative true believers who have run the Pentagon for the past 3[omega] years, three major institutions in the Washington power structure have decided that after almost a full presidential term of being treated with contempt and abuse by them, it's payback time.
Those three institutions are: The United States Army, the Central Intelligence Agency and the old, relatively moderate but highly experienced Republican leadership in the United States Senate.
None of those groups is chopped liver: Taken together they comprise a devastating Grand Slam.
One thing that needs to be relearned, again and again, is that you can push a modern bureaucracy only so far before it kicks you in the ass (an emergent property of bureaucracy is to resist radical changes in direction). [John Robb's Weblog]

Nick Wreden sent me his excellent book, "Fusion Branding." Unlike most books on branding/marketing, Nick doesn't puff his ego, rehash past victories, or update tired concepts. What he does do is provide smart, granular advice on how to successfully market products in an environment characterized by:
- Empowered customers,
- globalization,
- and the rise of the Internet.
As you may know by reading my weblog, I am very much in favor of performance-based marketing (accountability) and lasting two-way relationships with customers (retention). Nick provides insight on how to do this effectively.
Worth a read. I am going to keep it close by the next time I run a company. BTW, Nick is smart enough to recognize that weblogs should be a part of any marketing campaign, which is saying a lot. [John Robb's Weblog]

WSJ. If current oil prices are sustained, the estimated losses at the Airlines is expected to top $5 b this year (hardest hit: American Airlines).
This brings up an interesting question: does the financial industry need terrorist-centric analysts that can calculate risk metrics and potential impact assessments on commodities/companies/etc.? My answer: of course. From what I have seen, the financial industry isn't doing this. Seems like an opportunity space to me. I bet I could build a $20-30 m company/division that does this in 2 years. BTW, research of this type can be an excellent way for a "technical security" company to differentiate itself from competitors, drive sales, build brand/recognition, and much more. Think about it. MINI Introduces New Roof Decals.

This news via from MINI PR:
'MINI has expanded its range of roof decals with the addition of five new roof designs. ëCamouflageí, ëzipí, ëstripesí, ëtartaní and ëtigerí take the total number of MINI roof decals available to 25.
All five new roof decals will be displayed for the first time at Motor Show Live at the Birmingham NEC from 25th May - 6th June.'
Trevor Houghton-Berry, General Manager UK said, ìSince MINI was launched in 2001, we have seen MINI owners embrace the opportunity to personalise their cars. There are almost 50,000 ways of specifying a MINI and the introduction of five new roof decals has further expanded that choiceî.
Three MINI facts:
- The most popular roof decal in the UK and the USA is the Union Jack.
- Due to the enormous choice of options and accessories available for MINI only two in every 100,000 MINIs produced at Plant Oxford are likely to be exactly the same. Statistically this means that only two of the 100,000 MINIs registered in the UK will be identical.
- Over 99 per cent of MINI owners have added additional specification to their cars ranging from the fitting of John Cooper Works kits to the addition of bonnet stripes.
There's currently no word on US availability but it's worth noting that there are already several designs that are out in the UK that MINIUSA doesn't offer. With that in mind it may be sometime until the US sees these flags. [MotoringFile]

MINI Plant at Oxford to Expand?.
Here's some interesting news from the Belfast Telegraph:
The German car maker BMW is close to deciding on a major expansion of its Mini plant in Oxford to cope with booming demand for the iconic car.
Production this year is expected to exceed 180,000, boosted by the launch in July of a convertible version of the car. But output cannot grow much beyond that because the plant's paint shop is already working almost at full capacity.
BMW executives have ambitious plans for further variants of the Mini, ranging from a sports utility model to a five-door Mini traveller or estate. They believe there is no reason why the brand cannot be extended in the same way that the BMW marque itself has grown to encompass a wide variety of models.
Michael Ganal, the BMW board member for sales and marketing, said the group was now "pretty close" to a decision on the expansion of Oxford.
He said:"We believe the Mini family has to grow."
