Thursday, May 18, 2000Ben Brown is back on his death-of-content soap box once again. Whether his latest diatribe will inspire the weblogging masses remains to be seen. I certainly have aspirations to do more than just daily commentary/link/commentary, but I obviously haven't done anything about them yet. It'll be interesting to see what kind of response he gets this time around. I'm betting somebody will post it to Metafilter any moment now.
On a semi-related note about content, one advantage Manila based weblogs have over the Blogger format is built in support for stories. I know that you can whip up something similar within Blogger by creating a new blog specifically for longer stories, but it requires a little bit more work on the user's part than working within the Manila framework. This is something I'll definitely be figuring out more about during the new redesign I've been talking about forever (can I use moving as an excuse?) and hope to have in place soon.

Thursday, May 18, 2000It was a real pleasure to start my morning off listening to the likes of Evan, Brad, and Rebecca on the Connection while they discussed the weblogging phenomena we all know and love. The topic of blogging on the show worked quite well despite Matt Haughey's doubts about how well the radio format could convey an understanding of blogging. Of course that's the biased opinion of someone who has been blogging for a while. At any rate it was tremendously cool to listen to some people I really admire talk about a subject dear to us all.

Thursday, May 18, 2000I'm getting tired of life without DSL. Especially since my PowerBook insists on freezing every time I disconnect after using its built in modem, unless I immediately shut down. On top of everything my Cisco 675 continues to taunt me with LED's indicating DSL connectivity, while my computer vainly tries to lease an IP address via dhcp. I should probably call US West tomorrow and see what's up.
