"I'm dedicated to attacking anyone it takes to keep my sorry ass in power." The President didn't say.
Y'know, in a sad way, it's kind of funny. After Bush was "elected" I said that it didn't really matter, as the only way a featherweight like him would get re-elected would be if "aliens invaded and he beat them off singlehanded with his bare hands". I guess we'll find out in 2 years whether I was overstating. Or maybe this Novmber when we see whther the truly amazing bullshit being handed out by "Republicans" manages to get them power in House and Senate.
(Disclaimer: I consider myself to be a Republican)

Speeding
Mac Speed Zone posted this chart that compares the speeds of various tasks in Mac OS X, on an assortment of Macs. It's interesting, but I have an issue with one piece of their baselining;
"...The times were then converted to percentages, relative to the Power Mac Dual G4/1GHz, which is set to 100%"
Ok, you do not pick a top of the line machine to be your baseline. A much better "baseline" would have been on eof the iMac's or maybe a bottom G4 Desktop.
Personally, I think you use the bottom-level iBook, but I like "faster-than" baselines. :) I remember running some of the old stuff like MacBench. :)

Personal RSS Aggregators
A very nice article here on Personal RSS Aggregators.
The News Aggregator in Radio is worth the price of admission alone....at least to me.

Internet Book Database
While I was writing the post about about OCD, it struck me; why isn't there an Internet Book DataBase, in the same fashion as the "imdb"?
I hate the fact that I basicaly have to go to Amazon, whom I generally dislike due to patent, and other issues, to link to any useful information about a book that I can feel will be there in a few months.
I did find one site with this as a proposed idea, with a pretty good Slashdot discussion under it as well.
The funny thing is, I think it would be quite doable, it would have to be done like the imdb; start it, have a good interface, and they will come. Hell, it's how Amazon's system got put in place.

OCD & religion. Metafilter pointed to this New Scientist article about a study showing a link between Catholic piety and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. [Flutterby!]
I find this an interesting article because of a by Orson Scott Card, called "Xenocide", wherin there's a group of people who've been bred for Genius linked with OCD, to keep them under control. The people of the planet call those with the trait "Godspoken". It's an interesting parallel. Dear retarded software developers: when you put nags in your software, it is not freeware; when you put a time-bomb on your binary, it is not freeware; if you're giving us a '30-day demo,' it is not freeware; if you collect personal information or include banner advertisements within your software, it is not freeware; when you cripple functionality within the program, it is not freeware. I can handle shareware. I can handle demos. I can handle just about any kind of download you throw at me. However, label it correctly or I'm gonna have to slap you upside the head!

Cool Homes
I'm big enough to admit that some people have much cooler homes than me. [Phil Ackley's Radio Thingumabob]
Ok, I admit it, that's cool. I will also admit, that if I had done, it I'd have to have made it look like it crashed (embed it in a hill or something), but that's just because I'm a freak.

Jin-Roh
Masukomi has an article over on her site that underscores for me, the final issue of Homosexuality; It really is simply no different. Same BS, different sex. :)
So, less than two weeks before our wedding, I'm spending the night the night kicked out of the bedroom.
Yep. Yer getting married, all right, you can now check that off the checklist. :)
Anyways, A: I'm ticked, because I wanted to SEE that movie, and I'm in the same city, and looks like I missed it. :( B: I hit the link to see what movie it was, as she doesn't say the name in her article, and I notice this at the bottom of the link to Jin-Rho at Amazon;
"Suitable for ages 18 and up: considerable violence, profanity, and tobacco use."
Ok, lemme get this straight. People are warning about tobacco use in movies now? Yeeeeeeeesh.
"MYOB US Inc. claims to have taken the top spot in the Mac accounting software market. The company vaunts products including FirstEdge and AccountEdge to explain its marketshare lead, noting that AccountEdge was the first Mac OS X business management and accounting product to market."

MYOB grabs Mac accounting software market lead
Ok, pardon me for being Mr. Grumpy, but so what? I was going to use a witty parallel case, but I can't think of one.
The point being that most shops that use Macs, have one WinTel system, and that system is to run QuickBooks. It sucks, but it's generally true. I see it at a lot of our clients, and for that matter it's how we do things. Honestly, I'd like to be using AccountEdge, but the fact it, if you are hiring an accountant, they want to see QuickBooks, because it's what they know.

Appropriation of symbols. Maybe I'm just not enough of a player, but I was in the bathroom where there's a copy of _Rolling Stone_ (http://www.rollingstone.com/), in which is an ad for the _Hard Rock Hotel_ (http://www.hardrockhotel.com/) which consists of a big picture of three women clad in leather, posing pseudo-seductively on a roulette wheel, wearing collars and holding riding crops menacingly. I'm pretty vanilla, but doesn't the crop kinda contradict the collar? Poser frat boys as target aud...[truncated] [Flutterby!]
Yeah, well, actually it doesn't automatically contradict. I guess if you wanted to look at it sociologically enough, it would be "women who will paddle you, but are still subservient to you".
If you want to take it at face value (the more likely level), then it's just clueless soft-porn.
Sort of like an X-rated movie based in 17th Century France, but they all have wristwatches. :)
