Mac/WinTel Wars
Author Kelby defends his new book
Kelby makes no secret that the book (Macintosh...The Naked Truth) is for Mac users and that they are the only ones that will really get what he's trying to say. In fact, the tag line on the book reads: "An irreverent, off-the-wall, PC-slammin', totally biased look at what it's like to be a Macintosh user in a Windows-dominated world."
[MacCentral]

I haven't read the book, and I prolly oughtta pick up a copy just for laughs. This article nags a fear I have of, if the Mac continues gaining popularity, as it has been lately, of re-igniting the old "Mac/PC" war bullshit.

Even the term is wrong, since the Mac is a "PC" and Apple likes to make note that they were there at the start of the "PC Revolution" with the Apple.

But then again, WTH. Gotta have some fun sometimes. :)

Lost Icons? The icons of most classic apps on my new OS X laptop have been replaced by blanks or generic representations. In Classic mode I'd just run Norton. But in OS X, I'm not sure about the solution. Suggestions, anyone? [Doc Searls Weblog]

My guess is that he needs to rebuild his Desktop Database (Classic), by:

Apple Menu->System Preferences->Classic, Click on the "Advanced" tab, Press "Rebuild Desktop" button.

Might have to logout/login to see fix.

I already e-mailed doc about this, and forgot to add my weblog URL, so he prolly won't link to me...:(

But I got to thinking...wouldn't it be nice if, by replying here, he would see it pop up? I know, I know, he can probably see it in his referrer log or whatever, but that's not as easy as say....

I've been pondering that I still miss USENet, in the spiffy coolness of the weblog dance, because when I replied to someone it was pretty quick for them to spot the reply, as well as others who needed to tell me I was full of it. This was brought even more heavily into my consciousness by Dave mentioning USENet in a post.

Not like I have a solution or anything, just a question....
