Dave Winer teases new Radio Outliner capabilities
Dave Winer writes about his vision of a new tool he calls My Weblog Outliner that will help make the outlining capabilities of Radio 8 even more useful. I can't get it fast enough. I have stopped using Radio's outliner very much once the Instant Outliner functions stopped working.
I still find the outliner useful for maintaining what I call living documents, like my ongoing OS X Applications Ranked By Category. [Mac Net Journal]
I don't know whether to laugh or cry. UserLand still hasn't figured out how to leverage its outliner. Every time they step forward with a cool tool like the Instant Outliner, they get cold feet and kill it.
If I remember correctly, the whole idea behind Radio was to provide an outliner interface for Manila and weblogs. Radio's outliner will work with Manila, and it used to work with weblogs. But with Radio 8, we are back to using browsers.
While I would still prefer using an outliner, I am finding that an enhanced browser (like OmniWeb) coupled with Radio 8 on a fast system provides a very good weblog platform. If the browser is good enough, why do I need an outliner that doesn't have integrated spell checking?
UserLand should stop teasing and just release a kick-butt outliner. Otherwise, it's just here we go again...
