Want to see just how much damage you can expect from a comet or asteroid impacting the Earth? The folks at the University of Arizona, Lunar and Planetory Laboratory have a impact calculator that does it. Thanks to SiliconValley.com for the link.

BTW, if it is a big impact, you really don't want to be on the planet.

USGS Emeritus Scientist Ed Clifton to Receive the Francis J. Pettijohn Medal for Sedimentology from SEPM

U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) emeritus scientist H. Edward Clifton has been selected by the Society for Sedimentary Geology (SEPM) to receive one of the organization's most prestigious medals

I am looking forward to going to Dallas for the presentation. If you are a sedimentary geologist, you know that this is a great honor and well deserved. Way to go Pop!
