I got back from Dallas last night. Conferences are fun, but they are tough on your feet. After three days of walking on cement, I seek out the major players booths, "No I am really not interested in your product, I just like your padded carpet."
I enjoyed the science.
I especially enjoyed hearing one the reigning fluvial sedimentologists state that the braided/meandering dichotomy is a myth. In the rock record, you can't distinguish between the two. I have only been saying this for twenty years.
I enjoyed the challenge.
After a session, I was sitting with my father and another premier sedimentologist. They were commenting on how lucky they were to be in the science when they were. I jokingly stated that they didn't leave my generation with any problems. Roger responded, "After today, you know where the problems are."
He is right. The science is wide open. I want to get back into the field, looking at rocks, now!
