fun weekend

One of my non-computer interests is magic. Penn and Teller, Eugene Burger, Mac King, Jamy Ian Swiss, that sort of magic. I'm lucky in that one of my good friends publishes magic books. He runs a company known as Hermetic Press. Among his friends are some of the best magicians of our time, and when they come to visit, things can be quite fun.

There was a magic conference this weekend, and Max Maven, very likely the best mentalist alive came up to do a lecture and a show. When he is in Seattle, he generally stays with my friend, and we all go out to dinner together. Let me tell you -- it is quite interesting to go out to dinner with a bunch of magicians. There's a certain amount of geeking out -- magic nerds are just like any other kind of nerd when it comes to discussing their area of expertise, but when they start demonstrating new tricks or new ways of doing old tricks, it can be quite amazing. Plus, there's the added benefit that these people tend to have very interesting conversations.

It was amazing, it was fun, and I feel privileged to have been there.
