Sitting in on the opening session at Education Arcade - notes are rough but will be posted as they occur. The wireless does not seem to be working - but once it does (if it does), I can stream audio through iChat. Ping me if interested @ sitegeist@mac.com Notes are forthcoming (once I get radio to upstream them) 9:51:37 AM | # | | trackback []

Made it down to the Education Arcade conference. The Arcade is a two day pre E3 event organised by Henry Jenkins III from MIT. The opening reception attracted about 50 very energetic people with diverse backgrounds. The people that I spoke to were either seasoned veteran game developers (like Gregor Koomey from The Crazy Factory) or people (like myself) who were interested in the topic and felt that this was the perfect place to find out more. Jim Bizzochi is here (and we almost had a chance to chat!). The conference promises to be a good one. It is hard to overlook the fact that later this week E3 starts. My entire shuttle bus (of what I am assuming is a cross section of the general public) spontaneously started scheming about how they could get into E3 (an industry only even t- I sure hope I can get into E3 later this week). The convention centre itself is decked out in larger than life advertisements for popular games. It is obvious that this industry is doing well, but I suspect that much of the discussion later this week will center around how to get realistic shadows or more twitch rather than on potential overlap with education. I am away from the conference in the West Hollywood Hyatt and have been trying to get acquainted with the LA transit system. Unfortunately, my hotel does not have high speed internet so I am stuck with 9600 baud over my GPRS connection. :-( 1:01:17 AM | # | | trackback []
