The New Media Consortium conference is coming up June 16-19 in Vancouver. As a co-chair (along with Ulrich Rauch), I imagine that my next few weeks are going to be extremely hectic. I am taking the relative calm of this weekend to catch up and get things ready. One of my goals has been to get my Macs functioning the way that I want them to work, and I have been playing with remote control. OsXVNC and Chicken of VNC were recommended in the MacDev Center and worked perfectly out of the box! Another essential tool is the Remote Desktop from Microsoft which allows me to a PC from my Mac (almost as good as Virtual PC). I have had great luck setting up a couple of wikis (useMod and VPWiki) - both of which worked almost flawlessly from minute one. Downtime means that I have some time to reflect on the recent flurry of meetings that I have been at. The Education Arcade addressed educational gaming and was one of the better meetings I have attended in the last few months. The crowd was energetic, knowledgeable, and had real experience (lots of students, hackers and modders) to back up their discussions. The content was great, and just outside the room was the excitement of the E3 carnival. The other con was BloggerCon II. Lots of great ideas and superb use of technology, but more discussion about the use of blogs outside of education. Of course, the blogging phenomenon is much younger than the gaming movement and has not had time to develop distinct genres and subgroups. 9:44:17 AM | # | | trackback []
