Well, at least you know where Michael Kinsley stands. We seem to have a greater Imperial Presidency than we did with Nixon. Perhaps, since we are at war, Kinsley's comments should be scaled back, as Supreme Court judge Antonin Scalia has stated. Of course, since there is not real endpoint to a war on terrorism, when would we get these rights back, Mr. Justice? 11:26:53 PM

It seems that it is not only career diplomats that are resigning. Some in the intelligence community are also not very happy. But then, reading down to the bottom, it turns out that Beers was in the State Department since Reagan's presidency, heading the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement. He fought drug traffickers in Colombia. He was appointed Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Combating Terrorism in August. 11:19:51 PM

Well, I made a reference a few days ago to the British tradition of resigning. Well, it looks like our own diplomats are following one also. In this case, people that have spent 20 or more years on the job, dealing with foreign affairs from Reagan, Bush and Clinton, can no longer stomach our current president and his policies. Read the resignation letter. At least in Britain, when Robin Cook resigns he still gets to stay in Parliament. Mary Wright had been in the State Department since 1986 and in the Reserves for 27 years. She will get her pension but her experience is gone from government work. Such a loss of institutional memory. 10:47:41 PM

Funny quote: "You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the Swiss hold the America's Cup, France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance, and Germany doesn't want to go to war." From Terry Farrell in a newsgroup I frequent. [The Scobleizer Weblog]

A nice overview of the military tactics of the war, with good insight into just what the US may or may not be doing. This blog helps provide perspective that the media comes no where near. Here is one:THEY'VE STARTED BLOWING UP THE JOURNALISTS
Something that may not have occurred to everyone yet... the highest-value target on the Allied side isn't the soldiers. It's the journalists. Ansar al-Islam's figured it out, though. 12:15:13 AM
