Some links and discussions about Rumsfeld's press briefings. What a stand-up guy. 4:27:20 PM

Well, he only resigned the chairmanship. He is still on the Defense committee. But there are some interesting details in this article. 4:22:11 PM

I missed this but it is a big deal. He resigned because of a possible "double-dipping" scenario where he used his government job to get $750,000 for himself. At least now he is doing the right thing. Perle was a major architect of our defense strategy and a close friend of Rumsfeld. This op-ed piece gives some of the lead up to his resignation. To get a further idea of his approach to dissent and diversity of opinion, check out this article examining his threats to sue an American columnist for libel in Britain because the libel laws are more liberal. 2:30:04 PM

I have met many smart but arrogant men in my life. The problem that happens is when they make a mistake, which all of us do, no one gives them a break. Out comes the knife. The old saw about being treated on the way down the way you treat people on the way up is true.
I am flabbergasted in the quote by Rumsfeld that this is Tommy Franks war plans. Well, yes, technically it is but only because he had to come up with the plan in the confines that Rumsfeld set. Guys like this have a hard time ever admitting they may have made a mistake and are awfully quick to point fingers. Watch to see how this progresses in coming weeks.
There apparently have been big discussions in military circles about the two strategies being taken. I think the end of the article displays the viewpoints of two of the most important men in our government. A quote from Teddy Roosevelt in Rumsfeld's office:: Aggressive fighting for the right is the noblest sport the world affords.
And from Powell's, a quote by the Athenian historian Thucydides: Of all the manifestations of power, restraint impresses men the most. 2:18:19 PM
