Which American Life?. The trouble with American history, public radio-style, is that it unlinks the past from the present. [AlterNet]
History is more than some stories of what happened hundreds of years ago and it is much more complex than simply finding a villian. Andrew Jackson makes a comfortable villian but there were thousands of other Americans who went along with him. This lack of connection between the events of yesterday and the ripples they produce today is one that is seen in almost all the attempts of the major media, whether conservative, like Fox, or liberal, like NPR. Lack of depth, lack of understanding and and lack of perspective is what Santayana meant about being doomed to repeat history. 10:24:21 PM
