Panel with Allen Delattre (accenture), Neil Haldar (MGM Interactive), James Madsen (NextWave Telecom Interactive) and Douglas Rasor (Texas Intruments). All seemed to say that multiple approaches will be available. Some discusson about how copyright holders (i.e. MGM) can meet with silicon valley. Haldur - wants just a few methods to provide. standards are important. Madsen - better for companies to provide standards rather than government (Korea as an example).
Interactive Poll indicated that the key determinant for consumer and Enterprisers to select best model. over 40% said flexibility was most important. I wonder if this is in opposition to the panels needs for standards? Too many types of carriers in voice? Madsen said that the US is doing very well bringing cellular services. Lots of money per POP. But feels best way to get broadband is to construct the network and the sell it at wholesale [Of course that is what his company does ;-)]
3 years out - who and why will win? consolidation. fewer to choose from to use on a lot of different devices. Madsen - says half of us will carry a personal server that connects to broadband. Passive device and allows us to use as a router for all our personal device. all for under $100 Rasor -we can build it (laughs) totally agrees with Madsen. Gateways will be used to connect things (like GPS and bluetooth)
[My reactions. Hardware guys have lots of ideas to get useful things into the hands of consumers but the media people still do not have a good model and are hoping the market will shake out. making it much easier for them to provide content. But the market may not (and does not) want to wait for them. 11:49:53 AM
