'Justice' Department to Judge: Drop Dead. AP: U.S. Withholds Witness in Moussaoui Case. The Justice Department on Monday refused to produce an al Qaeda prisoner... [Dan Gillmor's eJournal]

What a Justice Department. They refuse a judge's order. This will result in the case being dismissed, allowing the government to declare him an enemy combatatnt and try him in secret, their way. Sure makes me comfortable. As Pastor Martin Niemöller said:

?First they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew. Then they came for the Communists, and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist. Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.?QB"

I guess we can add enemy combatant to the list of people they came for. Will we speak out in time?  10:24:14 PM

Daily Outrage: Historical Revisionist-in-Chief. Bush claims -- wrongly! -- we attacked Iraq after Saddam kicked out UN inspectors. [The Nation Weblogs]

I wonder how much longer this will go on? Again, the key point for me is that we launched a preemptive war, declaring a new Doctrine that will guide us in our foreign relations in the future, using intelligence information that was not rock solid. We enter another period where our government can do whatever it wants to simply because it wants to, with no insight into the long range effects. The Spanish blew up the Maine. Let's attack them. The Indians are in the way. Let's just ignore our sworn word and evict them. Not because we are right but because we have the might. The same strain of Puritanism that believes that God demonstrates his Love by making you rich, by making you powerful, runs through the neoconservatives running this administration. Just as we knew the Internet bubble would someday occur, you can bet that the hubris of these men will be their downfall.

For all I hate what Bill Gates has done, he at least acts from a feeling of fear, a feeling of inferiority, that MS will be swallowed up by the next new thing. The men running our government have no fear, which makes me very afraid.  10:13:25 PM

Yes, heaven help me.

Seen via Hooblogger Half the Sins of Mankind, the “What threat to the Bush Administration are you?” quiz. Apparently, the author has me pegged:

Threat rating: High. The Bush administration is
concerned that it may not get a second term.
Therefore, we are going to change the rules so
that each Democrat vote only counts as 0.2
votes because Democrat is a shorter word than
Republican

What threat to the Bush administration are you?
brought to you by Quizilla

Take the quiz. It is a hoot.  9:57:24 PM
