Artist of the Millenium
At the MTV Awards the other night, Michael Jackson actually thought he was being called "Artist of teh Millenium." (Which is, after all, pretty young now.):
Perhaps the biggest surprise was when pop queen Britney Spears emerged to give a birthday cake and a treble-clef-shaped trophy to Jackson, as she referred to him as "the artist of the millennium." The gifts were for Jackson's 44th birthday, but he assumed they were for something more.
"When I was a little boy growing up in Indiana," Jackson said softly, "I never dreamed of getting the Artist of the Millennium award."
My daughter Tivoed the show for me so I could see Bruce do "The Rising," a terrific performance.
