When Al Gore talks...

I got this quote third hand, I think, and had to go through a couple blogs to get to the original, from Public Nuisance:

When Al Gore talks, conservatives listen. And then they lie. And they never, ever, apologize or retract. They just play up one lie until it's discredited, or long after, and then go on to the next one. Conservatives pundits have been doing so for years. And their younger brethren in the blogosphere have learned the same rules.

It's a good, long piece. I was thinking along these lines when I read a letter in the SF Chronicle bringing up that hoary canard about Gore claiming to have invented the internet, among his other "lies." Of course, he didn't claim that, and those who say he lied about it ignore the true fact that the led the Senate in support of it for years. Of course, the right just repeats it and repeats it. It's pretty useless, like the left continually harping as it did for a while on Dan Quayle's potatoes. In both cases, it's a way of making an ad hominem attack without addressing anything of substance.

In this Gore case, there's nothing but just continual distortion of his remarks. The Public Nuisance piece does a good job of exposing the lies.

Could the right be so twitchy about Gore because he actually won the election?
