Saint Francois d'Assise

The Vision of a Mystic. Olivier Messiaen's only opera, "St. François d'Assise," one of the most daunting operas to produce, had its American stage premiere at the San Francisco Opera. By Anthony Tommasini. [New York Times: Arts]
I'm going to be fortunate enough to see the last performance of this in San Francisco, through the good offices of one of my clients, Greg Cheng at Byron Hoyt Sheet Music. I haven't seen an opera before, but this one looks to be a corker. There's another review in this mornings SF Chronicle. The SF Opera site has an intersting set of pages on it, too (http://www.sfopera.com/).
