Some highlights of the Dylan shows.

Lots of highlights from the Dylan shows, in no particular order:

Accidentally Like a Martyr, every night was very well sung. Mutineer, too, was incredibly moving. * Masters of War the second night in Sacramento moved me, though it hadn't the first night. * Old Man always stuck in my head after the show. * The second night in Berkeley was the first time I'd seen Bob sing one of my favorite songs from Love & Theft, Lonesome Day Blues, thoug the rendition was kind of disappointing. * Always fun seeing the same faces I always see at a Bob show. * It was nice seeing my neighbor Ken get so enthused. * Every Grain of Sand is a a masterpiece, and it was well sung, much better, I think than when I saw him sing it at the Warfield in 95 (I think). * Floater and Moonlight were affecting. * Bob on the piano was just plain fun. * He didn't play Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 * Hard Rain, Blowin' in the Wind, Tombstone Blues, Don't Think Twice, and many more.

There were also some lowlights:

The idiot in back of me the first night in Sacramento who tapped me on the shoulder a couple times and said he couldn't understand a word Bob was saying. Hey, moron, for one I don't care what you think. For two, it's called singing, not diction. * The idiot in back of me in Berkeley who insisted in clapping very loudly during the acoustic songs. Hey, guy, if no one else is clapping in time, that should be a sign that it's probably not the right thing to do. * Bob sings Positively Fourth Street two slowly for my taste, it drags. * I'm sorry my pal Mike begged off. * In Sacramento, we stood very close to the stage, which was fun in that we could really see Bob, but the spot was kind of dead to Bob's voice.

Historian Stephen Ambrose dies. CNN: "Historian Stephen Ambrose, author of more than 25 books of American history -- including "Band of Brothers" and multivolume biographies of Dwight D. Eisenhower and Richard Nixon -- died early Sunday. He was 66." [Mac Net Journal]
Too young, with a lot of good work to come, I would have thought. The Lewis & Clark book, Undaunted Courage, was really good, as was Citizen Soldiers. A historian gets better, often, as he ages, and can make more and more links between different facets of his knowledge. This is a waste.

More and More and More.          Though one can not expect strict impartiality from anyone, there have been still further indications that the Bush administration has been unduly influenced by ideology in its governance, and not enough by rational thinking. I here cite a few instances, with digressions. [ABC Electric Journal]
