Giants Game Today

Genevieve and Richard and I saw the Giants beat the Brewers today at PacBell Park. There's not much more I enjoy than going to a baseball game, especailly with Genevieve and Richard. We had some extra tickets, but didn't sell them, instead we traded them (and some cash, alas) to a scalper for better tickets in lower right field, where we hadn't sat before, close to Jose Cruz Jr. A beautiful day at PacBell Park. In every baseball game, you see something you've never seen before. Today it was Bonds getting kicked out of the game for hollering at the umpire from the dugout, and Pedro Feliz's triple to right field. It was kind of depressing for a while, thinking the Giants might get beat by the lowely Brewers, but they saved us that ignominy. A nice day; we missed the Solano Stroll, but as I say, going to a game with Genevieve and Richard is about as much fun as you can have.

I just read these two Warren Zevon pieces by his friends Carl Hiassan and Dave Berry.

Dave Barry Strikes Back Against Telemarketers [Slashdot]'

Great article on telemarketers, which ends with this gem:

MPORTANT REMINDER -- Mark your calendar with a big ''X'' on Sept. 19, which is the second annual National Talk Like A Pirate Day. This is the day when everybody is supposed to talk like a pirate for very solid reasons (see www.talklikeapirate.com).

Last year, the first National Talk Like a Pirate Day was a huge success, as measured by the number of messages on my answering machine consisting entirely of people going ''Arrrrr.'' So if you're feeling depressed -- if you think the world is in terrible shape, and one person like yourself can't make a difference -- remember this: You're right. So you might as well talk like a pirate. It's easy! For example, when you answer the phone, instead of ''Hello,'' you say ''Ahoy!''

Then you hang up. Scurvy telemarrrrrketers!

Can't wait for the 19th!

I didn't know this until Corinne forwarded it to me. Interesting that you can't really question whether or not it's true, since it proves itself
