When they built the Giants' new park down at China Basin a few years ago, they created a wonder, a great place to watch a ballgame. I didn't mind that they called t Pacific Bell Park, at least "Pacific" had a non-commercial sense to it; we are near the ocean, after all. But the new name for it, SBC Park or whatever, is atrocious; "SBC" stands, of course, for "Southwest Bell," or something like that, some rapacious corporation that's never done anything for me, the only reason it seems they have the rights to name the field is that they bought the company that owned the naming rights.

In any case, we now have a new effort to name the park Mays Field, a much, much better name for it. They have a terrific logo that you can add to your site, and bumper stickers. Very cool. I'm not to sanguine about the prospects for success, but if we just all start calling it Mays field, that'll be a step in the right direction.
