On Schiavo Just when you think this Republican regime can't get any lower, we get something like this Schiavo affair. I thought conservatives were supposed to be against government stepping into family affairs? I thought marriage was supposed to be sacred? Not, apparently, if you don't like the husband. So we get the spectacle of corrupt Tom Delay trying to draw attention away from his ethical problems by shouting "look over here" at Miss Schiavo. We have an administration that doesn't think twice about cutting Medicaid, but doesn't mind calling special Sunday sessions to grovel for votes above the brain-lacking body of this poor creature. Here is a good piece on the medical issues (in summary: she has no cerebral cortex, there is no there there). And here's a good one on the moral problematics.
