Beamed Up OK, maybe that head is not so respectful, and it's certainly going to be used a lot, but it's sad to see that James Doohan, Star Trek's Scotty, of course, is gone at 85. DeForest Kelly, Bones, died a few years ago. I've been watching some of the old Trek's lately, and they're nearly as enjoyable as they were when I was in the 7th and 8th grades, and later when my enjoyment of them was substantially chemically and biologically enhanced. As bad as the show sometimes got, its heart was in the right place, and sometimes it hit quite well. Doohan was an essential part of the show, and many of the phrases he uttered have slipped into the language. 11:25:09 AM    comment []

Google Moon! Wow! Via Randy Charles Morin comes this link to the verycool Google Moon, in honor of the 36th anniversary of Apollo 11's landing. I love it when you zoom to highest magnification! I do think they could have used better sources for a lot of it, and I'd like to see an option that lets you see the moon in the same sort of projection that you see through a telescope (in the same vein, I can't wait for Google Universe).
