Do you believe this?
Facing criticism that he appeared disengaged from the
disaster wrought by Hurricane Katrina, President Bush has been looking
for opportunities to show his concern. But the White House will take
the effort a step further today, venturing into untested waters by
putting the nation's first lady on reality television.
Laura Bush will travel to storm-damaged Biloxi, Miss., to film a
spot on the feel-good, wish-granting hit "Extreme Makeover: Home
Edition." Mrs. Bush sought to be on the program because she shares the
"same principles" that the producers hold, her press secretary said.
In its standard format, the popular ABC series finds hard-pressed
but deserving families, sends them away for short vacations and then,
in a whirlwind of carpentry and appliance shopping, gives them new
homes. This time, though, the show will broadcast from an underserved
shelter near Biloxi, where a convoy of trucks stocked with everything
from mattresses to pants will arrive, courtesy of Sears, one of the
show's sponsors.

I quite enjoyed Russell Beattie's rant about the Mac, its OS, and applications. It's too bad that he apparently got slammed quite a bit -- religion is an ugly thing, whether it's Mac, Linux, Christianity, or Republicanism. Pointing out that often there's a nude emperor doesn't make any friends.
The list is fun to read -- I don't agree with many of the points he makes, but I do agree with many, such as the disastrous Finder. I've been using Macs for about as along as you can use them; I got my first in late February of 1984. I am ambidextrous or AC/DC, meaning that I shift from Mac to Windows all the time, and generally keep both on my desk. It wouldnt' be hard to draw up a list like Beattie's for Windows (or Linux, either, I bet). The point is, these days, that for the most part there's no objective measure of which system is the best, rather it's which works best for you. Or which aggravates you the least.
