FRIST ON TORTURE: He doesn't want to know:
Frist told reporters Thursday that while he believed illegal activity should not take place at detention centers, he believes the leak itself poses a greater threat to national security and is 'not concerned about what goes on' behind the prison walls.
Beyond belief.

I've been working too damned hard, so haven't paid close enough attention to this nonsense about Sony installing rootkit onto your Windows CD when you insert some copy-protected CDs. But EFF has a story on it here, along with a list of the affected, er, infected CDs. They also tell you how to recognized the CDs.

As we've mentioned before, Sony-BMG has been using copy-protection technology called XCP in its recent CDs. You insert your CD into your Windows PC, click "agree" in the pop up window, and the CD automatically installs software that uses rootkit techniques to cloak itself from you. Sony-BMG has released a "patch" that supposedly "uncloaks" the XCP software, but it creates new problems.

I guess this is a case where once again, at least for now, Mac users have the edge. But can Mac users even play these CDs? I don't know. I think the best course is not to buy any of these CDs, and write to the artists and tell them why. And if you have any of them, return them to the retailer and tell them why.

Later: I guess I spoke too soon about the Mac. According to Macintouch, Mac users can get bit, too.
