BBC News has a great article about what exactly is in the beer you drink. Many mass market beers have such things as betaglucanase and propylene glycol alginate (clearly not water, malted barley, hops, or yeast). The first is a catalyst to speed up brewing, and the second stablizes the beer's head. Although safe, it'd be nice to know that they're in the beer. However, in the UK and most of the EU (and while not mentioned in the article, the US, too) laws don't require brewers to list their ingredients.

If you must drink beer -- and you must! you must! -- then dring good beer. Homebrew, or brew from good small breweries. There's so much good beer in the world thse days, it's not hard to avoid the polluted water from the bigs.

"I don't think there's anything wrong with singing it in Spanish. The point is it's the United States' national anthem. And what people want is it to be sung in a way that respects the United States and our culture. At the same time, we are a nation of immigrants. We are a nation of many, many languages," - Laura Bush on Larry King. She also said she thought the national anthem should be sung in English.

From Conan O'Brien via Daily Kos:
"Condoleezza Rice is the most popular member of the Bush administration. Experts say that claiming to be the most popular member of the Bush administration is like claiming you got the 'good' kind of Herpes."
