"The second clause says no law may contradict the principles of democracy. Can you imagine millions demonstrating in Iraq, calling for same-sex marriage, like in Sweden, America, and Britain? Same-sex marriages means a marriage of a man with a man, or a woman with a woman. This is a terrible catastrophe, totally forbidden by Islam. Whoever marries someone of the same sex must be killed. Both must be killed as soon as possible and must be burned as well," - Iraqi Ayatollah Ahmad Husseini Al-Baghdadi.

Chimpy's fake ranch lies in McLennan County.

McLennan County commissioners on Tuesday declined to adopt a resolution apologizing for lynchings in the area in the 1800s and early 1900s.

But after rejecting the Community Race Relations Coalition's document by a 4-to-1 vote, commissioners said they would work on a resolution they all could accept.

[snip]

At least two commissioners have said they oppose an apology because the lynchings happened before current leaders and residents were born. They also have said the murder or rape victims of the black men who were lynched should not be forgotten.

Yeah, we all know that all the black men lynched in McLennan County must have been guilty.

Hey, it's California Bike To Work Week, and tomorrow's the big day. Some ashes in my mouth: biking home yesterday I put a nail into my rear tire, about a mile from the house. Especially aggravating since I had just done the same thing (though on the way to work, and much closer to home) a week ago. Flats always come in twos for me, it seems. So I'm off this morning to get the tire fixed, again. But don't take my recent small bad luck as an excuse not to ride yourself. Get on the bike and do it.

Forty years ago today, on May 16, 1966, American rock music grew up. Two of the most ambitious albums to date were released on that day. They were Bob Dylan%u2019s Blonde on Blonde and the Beach Boys%u2019 Pet Sounds. Forget all the soda-pop dreams chirped over basic chords that preceded that day. These two albums heralded a new era of sophisticated songwriting.

So, I'm a day late.
