Police Raids Anger Jordan Citizens [AP World News]
Last weekend, police and army units stormed into this desert town to round up what officials call a murderous gang of arms and drug smugglers, bandits and arsonists. Five people have been killed in shootouts and dozens arrested since then.
I wonder if we'll be seeing loud protests from leftists and European intellectuals comparing the Jordanians to Nazis. Somehow, I doubt it.

Annan: Israel must relinquish land won in 1967 war. UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan denounced Israel on Wednesday as an expropriator of Arab land and said it must surrender nearly all of the territory for peace with Arabs. [Detroit Free Press]
Evidently Annan has not been keeping up on current events. If he had been, he'd know that the Israelis attempted to do just that in December of 2000. The Arab response was a wave of terrorist attacks--thus demonstrating just how much they really want peace.

Wired: "Warner Bros fears that a pirated copy of the new Harry Potter flick would surface online appear to be understated. In the days leading up to the film's release, and less than two weeks after its London premiere, file traders posted dozens of copies of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the second installment in the popular series, on peer-to-peer networks. The film debuts Friday at theaters in the United States and Great Britain." [Scripting News]
Among listings for the film on Kazaa and Internet relay chat networks, most are for copies made by videotaping the big screen in pre-release showings. A few purport to be of higher quality, including one listing on Kazaa that claimed to be a DVD ripped from a studio copy of the film.
This shows how silly the MPAA's attempts to keep people from making legal copies of their movies are. No matter what restrictions they impose with "digital rights management," it won't have any effect on people taping the screen or on insiders making copies that don't have the artificial restrictions enabled.

Fresh FBI terror warning. The al-Qaeda network could be planning "spectacular" attacks on American landmarks or major industries[cedilla] the FBI says. [BBC News | Front Page]
Gee, a terrorist group could be planning terrorist acts? Imagine that. Whatever will they think of next?
I guess there must be vote coming up in Congress on the American KGB Office of Homeland Security.
