Two days ago I made a post which I commented on with the phrase "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss." Shortly thereafter I began to wonder where exactly that phrase had come from. It's one of those clichés that everyone knows and uses, but who wrote it?
A few minutes of searching via Google revealed that, to my amusement, The Who wrote it. It's a line from a song called Won't Get Fooled Again
. It's amazing how quickly you can find out obscure cultural details these days!

Last month I had ordered three refurbished MessagePad 2100 battery packs, which arrived today. I immediately put one of them in the Newton I carry, and had no problems charging. My battery packs were nearing the end of their life (around 2.5 hours, down from 9 when new), so I'm glad to have these refurbished packs. Assuming they hold up well in use, I have some old packs I can send along for refurbishment.

My copy of Radio had recently started crashing regularly, which it had never done before, and was running quite slowly. I followed the procedure to compact the root files, which certainly helped the speed, although it's too soon to say if the stability problem is also gone.
My data files folder went from 231MB to 12MB!
