History Repeating. It was farce the first time around. Which makes it what this time? Brushing aside the objections of the Bush administration, a House of Representatives panel on Thursday overwhelmingly approved legislation to thwart foreign investment in Iran's oil and gas... By Charles Featherstone. [LewRockwell.com Blog]
The legislation -- called the Iran Freedom Support Act -- renews and strengthens existing sanctions, cuts off aid to countries that have companies investing in Iran and authorizes financial assistance to Iranian opposition groups.
It's typical of the Orwellian naming favored by the government that an act claiming to support freedom is sending a message here that all countries are fascist, and that's perfectly all right with them.
A better reason for cutting off aid (all of which should be cut off anyway) would be that a country's government dictates to companies who they can and can't do business with.
