Love Reign O'er Me
Only love
Can make it rain
The way the beach is kissed by the sea.
Only love
Can make it rain
Like the sweat of lovers
Laying in the fields.
Love, reign o'er me.
Love, reign o'er me, rain on me.
Only love
Can bring the rain
That makes you yearn to the sky.
Only love
Can bring the rain
That falls like tears from on high.
Love reign o'er me.
On the dry and dusty road
The nights we spend apart alone
I need to get back home to cool cool rain.
The nights are hot and black as ink
I can't sleep and I lay and I think
Oh God, I need a drink of cool cool rain.
Love, reign o'er me, rain on me.
-- The Who
This song and Baba O'Riley are my two all time favs by The Who. The men who backed up Daltrey and Townsend are now both dead. I find it ironic that the crazed Moon died to his extremes. while the rock solid Entwistle quietly passed away in his sleep.
Back when the band retired, it was Entwistle who regreted it the most and pushed the band to go back out on tour. A friend and I talked at length last night and we agreed that John Entwistle may have been a more important piece of The Who then many realized. While the other three bandmates went off in their own directions on stage and off, it was always the stoic pillar in the midst of chaos who pulled it all back together. He was the reminder that there was something that they were all supposed to be doing. The harbor in the midst of the storm.
Here's a toast to John Entwistle...long live rock...mj
