New PCs restrict copying
Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard on Tuesday released additional details about digital entertainment PCs coming for the holidays. But new anti-copying technology could hamper sales, say analysts and potential buyers. [ZDNet]
DOA! When are they going to wake up and realize that we won't take up a new technology if it takes away the convenience of the prior technology. Look at DAT! Do you remember DAT? It's now relegated to being a back-up tape technology because it was copy restricted. When is someone going to wake up and realize that consumers are only so stupid. We'll watch crap TV (don't get me started), but we'll rarely spend money on stupid technology that takes away features we expect.
One other thing! Anyone notice that Microsoft has released another version of XP!?! One of their complaints to the courts was about the risk of fragmenting the OS. They don't need the courts help, they're doing very nice on that account all by themselves. XP Home, XP Pro, XP Embedded, XP "Stinger", XP .Net Server, XP Small Business Server, Win CE .Net, Win2K Server, Win2K Pro, Win2K Advanced Server, Win2K Datacenter Server, and now XP Media Center Edition! You thought Win ME was bad, just wait for XP MCE! I also noted that Microsoft has comparisons between Win98/XP, and Win95/XP. Anyone else notice that they ignored Win ME? I guess even Microsoft has to admit that ME was a mistake.
Blah blah blah....just who the hell is supposed to keep track of these things? Would someone please go and slap Microsoft, and explain that 12 OS versions is not a "Good Thing"™...mj
