99.9% of Websites Are Obsolete
An equal opportunity disease afflicts nearly every site now on the Web, from the humblest personal homepages to the multi-million-dollar sites of corporate giants. Cunning and insidious, the disease goes largely unrecognized because it is based on industry norms. Though their owners and managers may not know it yet, 99.9% of all websites are obsolete. [Digital Web]

Zeldman has written a very provocative piece that bears the attention of anyone involved in web site design. From Coders, Project Managers, Marketing Execs, Testers, and Web Designers, all need to look at these words and think about the impact. Customers need to expect more, and understand the price of not using the latest browsers. If you use a new media device like a phone, or handheld, you need to understand why the web simply does not work for you. Now that we are past the landrush, we need to figure out where we are going and how to get there...mj

Fatal flaw inside MS's new Media Center PCs
If Microsoft's handling of digital-rights management in its new Media Center PCs is any indication, Redmond is perfectly happy to sell out its customers to keep the entertainment industry happy.

What I'm talking about are features built into Windows XP Media Center Edition that let some next-generation PCs act like TiVo-esque personal video recorders (PVRs). The first Media Center machines, due before Christmas from HP, also come with a DVD burner. That combination means you can copy TV programs you've recorded using the PVR features from your hard drive to DVD.

THAT'S WHERE the catch comes in: The DVDs you burn can only be played on the same machine on which they were recorded.

I'll pause now to let you reread that last sentence because you couldn't believe your eyes the first time through. [AnchorDesk]

DOA! I have to repeat that. This is an interesting concept done in a really bad fashion, typical Microsoft. Beyond being just ANOTHER OS VERSION (hey Bill, do we really need 12 versions of Windows, or even 6?), it is flawed beyond use. If you use this and have a TV in a different part of the house, you will not be able to play these DVDs on that TV's DVD Player!!

Why waste money on something that reduces usability!?! Just like Microsoft to sell out to the Entertainment Industry. While Intel, Apple and others speak out against such flawed systems, Micro$oft gets in bed with the enemy, typical!..mj
