I just visited the Apple website to check some details, and came upon a whole new set of pages, named Switch. They’ve got a page full of TV commercials featuring real people who have made the switch from the dark side to Macintosh, other pages full of quotes from them, and plenty more.
This is fantastic! Truth to combat the blatant big lies and bullshit the dark side encourages. People like us telling real stories about real experiences with PCs and Macs.
Here is a typical quote.
“I graduated to a Mac from a PC. As a video editor, I was tired of the PC’s constant crashing. PCs in my opinion were always almost machines—almost able to network—almost able to edit.”
This is great. Keep it coming, Apple. And keep putting those comparative TV ads out there. I want to see them on Australian TV pretty damned soon.

I dropped into an AppleCentre this afternoon on the way home, and tried out all the many and various Apple computers they have on sale and display. I am due a tax refund soon, and it is going to be spent on a decent machine that I can generate work with.
The latest high-end PowerBook G4 is the only one that will not be a compromise of the worst kind. You know, the one you regret immediately you make it. There is plenty of great things about this machine, but the one that really clinched it was the fact that you can connect it up to an external LCD monitor.
And the huge native resolution of the PowerBook—1280 x 1024 pixels. I have the prime monitor attached to this manky old Mac clone set at that, and it is excellent. A4 pages open at 100%. Imagine plugging in to a 23-incher at a consultancy client’s office, using the big screen for the project, and the portable’s screen for all the palettes and other stuff that most graphics and web design programs cover the screen with.
Then you go home, pull up the duvet and work away all night to complete the job for the next morning.

When I got the machine kinda working again late last I tried to connect to the web and collect my email, and found that the iPrimus DNS servers were down.
This is something that seems to happen every weekend. I would consider changing ISP but the rest of them could be even worse, and this is no time to make changes potentially for the worse.
