Thinking about this communication thing we do, and how to make it all work better, innit?

The National Australia Bank’s first attempt at Internet banking was pretty poor—built in Java but made to be usable only in Windows. Java is an intrinsically crossplatform language, and there is no justfication for hacking it to make it non-crossplatform.
Now the Bank has supposedly improved its Internet banking service so both Macintosh and Windows users can access it, but it still wants to dictate which browser you can use. In this case, only the awful 4th generation web browsers are the ones they will let you use. As for Mac OS X, forget about it, apparently.
Even worse, the way they have set it up you cannot actually do very much online at all. I cannot pay my bills except to those firms that have BPay facilities. And none of my suppliers have BPay facilities.

Good advice from Jeffrey Zeldman on how to convince clients that designing according to the standards is a Good Thing.

The bad accountant, who bought the business off my previous good accountant in Sydney, has now demanded a fee for doing last year’s tax return (much delayed through his own neglect) that is double the fee we agreed on. It seems that if I do not pay this doubled fee then there will be problems.
Maybe he is rewarding himself for a job well done? My new accountant advises I just agree to pay the fee so I can get my old tax refund (already spent in advance) and wash my hands of this guy.

Jeffrey Zeldman has released the URL to his Style Guide page for his Charlotte Gray movie website for Warner Bros. This is definitely worth grabbing, as are the JavaScript and CSS files attached to this page.
Zeldman is a real expert in these things, and there is much to learn from this style guide. I wish, though, that Cate Blanchett would stop dyeing her hair red—she far too closely resembles my beloved ex-wife when she does that.
