itopik.com news (Day 4)

itopik.com -> (Day4)   Working on backlog of submissions to itopik.com.

Trying to improve the itopik audio news with getting the file size right. Although I would prefer to do mp4 or a QuickTime movie, it seems that the ubiquity of MP3 is the right thing for now.. then we'll move into QT movies with a video version of the news.

06.07.03.mp3  2:50 min  1.6 MB

itopik audio notes:

Blog Conversation Syndication

Blog Conversation Syndication. In the spirit of ThreadsML, I have decided to syndicate the conversations on my blog. Each entry now has its own RSS feed that contains the orignal blog entry and all of the replies in the conversation. The file name for each feed is the same as the file name of the entry, with an ".rdf" extension rather than a ".html" extension. Each entry is also setup for RSS autodiscovery, so your favourite aggregator with find the feed automatically. Why would I want to do this? There are a number of reasons, but the first one simple: to help keep track of conversations. How many times have you posted a comment on a blog entry and forgot to return to that entry to see if there were any replies or follow-up comments? It can be hard to keep track of all the comments you make. Now, if you make a comment on one of the entries in this blog, you can subscribe to the RSS feed for that conversation. You can then setup your aggregator to monitor the feed for replies. I have created a "conversations" folder in my aggregator for this purpose. I created the RSS feed using a custom Movable Type template -- if you use MT and you want to syndicate your conversations, let me know. [Blog Conversation Syndication]

Six Apart builds a semantic blogging tool

Six Apart builds a semantic blogging tool.  Web Standards.

One of the ideas we've quietly promoted for a few years is that web standards aren't just an esoteric technical initiative, but can be part of a smart way of doing business on the Internet. To that end, we wanted to give a little technical information in an interview on A List Apart, called A Standards-Compliant Publishing Tool for the Rest of Us? The interview talks about how we're trying to make it possible for even an amateur to make pages that are semantically valid.

TypePad is aimed at users who are more interested in sharing ideas than talking technology, so we've been holding off on talking about the behind-the-scenes tech used to make the tool. But those of you who are into advocating standards compliance will be interested to find out about how we're not just using web standards for the output of the service, but for building TypePad itself.  [Six Log]

Cool.  I can't wait to get the details of TypePad.  FOAF, RDF, RSS Weblog APIs, Meta this, meta that.

I just ran into Mena here athe Planetwork Conference.  She brought up some really cool things which I promised I wouldn't blog - yet.  But TypePad is gonna be cool.  And all it's advancements should flow back to Moveable Type - too!
