Why I think corporations and businesses should blog
In the post "the layers of security I use to keep criminals at bay", Scoble tells us how he goes further then Microsoft's recommendations in securing his Windows XP desktop. If you work in an IT department you will find no new pieces to the security puzzle here. That's not to say the post was bad, it was actually a great read. It was interesting to see the pieces put all together and explained in one place (like a dynamic best practices document that changes daily). The post also validated that there is no long lasting, complete "do this and you will be fine" answer. After all the message here is coming from one of Microsoft's own employees who is struggling with securing their own desktop like the rest of us.
This post is a prime example of why corporations must take up webloging. Everyone is struggling with the same kind of infrastructure issues and problems, may they be IT or Finance or HR the list goes on and on. It is important to tell others outside your organization how you are solving some of these problems. Why not do it with a simple post? Posting you opinion or solution gives others with the same or similiar issues and problems at least a different view or maybe even a possible solution.
Quick solutions to hard problems could mean major savings to corporations. But the caveat here is in order to find quick solutions to problems on the Internet everyone must be also feeding the system. I'm not talking about posting everyday or long detailed posts. But it is important to post to the Internet, to give back when you have some important to say that can help others.
Posting your solutions helps everyone directly or indirectly (including yourself and your organization) and feeds the ever evolving pot of open answers available on the Internet.
