K-Logs supporting Learning Technologies Chicago Public Schools recently dumped their learning technology department ,again. Better, it has been rolled back again into IT. This is a dance that has occurred a couple of times since I joined Chicago Public School ten years ago. Granted, the size of Chicago Public Schools makes it into a very large corporation. I mean LARGE! If I am correct, our operating budget is in the billion dollar range. Chicago deserves and should have a top learning technology program. There has been the perception that there has been a disconnect between those who have run the program in the past and the folks at the frontline, the teachers. To go on a slight tangent, I am glad that the priority of the e-rate is going to schools in need of wiring and basic connectivity to the Internet. With the big bucks already invested in the technology infrustructure and hardware, to repeat myself, it seems that we need to now develop effective technology supports for teachers, technology coordinators, school network administrators and principals. (Sometimes all hats are worn by one person on the staff)
I will be the first to say that I do not have the answers. If I was the point person on this new learning technology endeavor in Chicago Public Schools, I would really think about developing some K-Log community building. tbc

I haven't written a thing about technology directly.
