I remember when CBS showcased international children's movies on Sundays so very long ago. I miss that series. I just saw the White Balloon which is about the longing of seven year old Iranian girl to buy a beautiful fat goldfish in order to properly bring in the Muslim new year. The goldfish in their pond in the patio has goldfish, but they are "skinny and small" . She wants the beautiful fish with angelic fins. This leads to an adventure that is memorable. When a movie is done well, as is this foreign film, one can see that children are children everywhere and families have the same issues everywhere. Maybe the new digital movie making tools will bring us new voices that celebrate our humanity.
