From the Making-The-Switch Dept:

Piro switches.

If you don't care, at least you can Look at his setup

On the other front, the 23" Cinema Displays have dropped in price, now costing less then what I paid for my Powerbook. This would be the first time, methinks.

From the ME Dept:

I use the mouse ambidextrously. Sometimes I use my right hand to move my trackball or trackpad, sometimes my left. This comes in handy when you're reading the news on your laptop and IMing people on your desktop simultaneously. No moving that hand when I want to use the mouse - no sirrey.

It also allows you to mouse and write at the same time.

The trackball for my desktop is a Microsoft Optical Intelleball Explorer something or other. It's a right-paw-only trackball. I only got it because it was Optical (my last trackball, an Orbit, died because of dust bunnies cemented to the rollers - no joke).

Luckily, I mostly use my laptop for work - so I can trackpad and write at the same time.

Ok, back to the news...

From the UI Dept:

John Gruber On inconsistencies in iApps

Interesting ideas.

I will say one thing: Apple has made the standard, built in controls better then they were in the past. The Multi-Language-Text-Editor, for example, is far better then TexEdit. The Appearance Manager controls (progress bars, for example), intro-ed circa System 8.x, are another thing that make consistent GUI design easy.

From the Yup Dept:

You Might Be From A Small Town When

Those kind of things sometimes rub me the wrong way. A few weeks ago I got one about "You might be from PA when" that I really didn't think was very funny at all. Every point got a "Yeah, so?" response from me.

However, this one is kinda funny.
