From the Site Dept:

Ah, finally getting around to blogging a backlog of stories. Here it goes...

From the Finder-Responses Dept:

Michael Tsai - Blog - About the Finder

Michael Tsai's comments on the Finder article (linked to below)

From the Interviews Dept:

Daring Fireball: Interview: Brent Simmons

Long (but very interesting) interview

From the The-Finder-Sucks Dept:

Ars Technica | About The Finder

After reading this article, I'm trying to make more and more of my Finder use not matter (as in - I'm trying to get away from the windows-icons navigation of the Finder). Using stuff like TigerLaunch helps.

From the OSS-Opinions Dept:

[ t e c h n o c u l t u r e ] | Thoughts On Linux

My Mom (and others) have a hard enough time with comptuers as they are, much less understand the befiddlements of a Unix based OS. Linux on the desktop? I really hope not.

Try getting your Linux-running mother to even read you her IP address. I had hard enough times getting people running Windows XP to do this simple act. I would hate to try and step her through opening up KConsole, and typing "ifconfig en0" and reading through the data.

Maybe it's 'cause I don't run Linux often enough (although I have it installed on a machine here), but the thought of that drives shivers up my spine.

OS X isn't quite there yet either. 90% of the problems I help people through are permission problems. It's getting better, but not there yet.

From the Pictures Dept:

No, the blue hair isn't real. But you would almost think so, wouldn't you?

The umm.. coloring... was actually done by a collegue at RIT - a graphics artist in his former life, now working at the HelpDesk.

From the Python Dept:

New Features In Python 2.3

The new timing module, and the new splice syntax (ability to get every Nth character from x to y) both look really really cool. Oh yeah, and the datetime module. I'm almost sick of using a Helix collection to do advanced date math.

I've actually installed Python 2.3 on my iMac, along with wxPython. Haven't played with it any - too busy with other stuff.

From the Back-And-Blogging Dept:

I've found that after a massive reformating of your drive (or, reinstallation) that you need almost a week to re-adjust your habits. It's also a good excuse to do some things differently.

Moving Radio to another hard drive really wasn't all that hard - Find and Replace the old path with the new path. Took me 5 minutes to figure this out, and 2 minutes to do it.

Radio is now running on my iMac. This may take a little adjusting with my tools and workflow, but I think it's for the best. I now can dedicate my Powerbook to work tasks, and the iMac can handle some more of those "personal" tasks.

'Cept I wished Camino had spell-checking and that the text boxes redrew themselves a little faster - I'm typing about 10 words ahead of it right now.
