I just read something Eric S Raymond wrote that made a lot of sense to me:

One thing hackers are good at is maintaining complex state in their heads, and you can use this to devastating effect....

I've run across this more than once - I remember meeting someone, but they don't remember me, I remember a factoid of information that they've forgotten, stuff like that.

With the meeting people thing, I somewhat understand that (sometimes) I meet someone important in a community, even if it's a small one, and they don't remember me 'cause I'm a nobody. Stuff like that. But some stuff I'm like "Ummm... why don't you remember this?"

Of course, there's this fine line between remembering useful state and just pure being spooky.

But now I understand why I seem to remember all this junk...
